Gaia Projects |

|
For GCF planting trees is the first step to the total Eco-
Restoration of parks: restoring the plants, animals and
micro-organisms that form a diverse, natural living unit. We
have tied up with Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS),
India's largest, oldest and most respected conservation NGO
on several conservation projects. The BNHS team carefully
plans the technical aspects of every Gaia project, using
scientific research to insure its success.
Eco-restoration of Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Mumbai is one of the only cities in the world to have its own
national park in city limits. The park acts as a carbon sink
absorbing large amounts of CO2 generated by the city. It
contains the Tulsi and Vihar lakes which supply part of
Mumbai's drinking water. SNGP is home to more than 1000
species of trees and plants, and over 500 species of birds,
reptiles, insects and mammals.
Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) is fast falling victim to
encroachment, illegal development and haphazard waste
disposal.
By acting now we can repair the damage caused by
economic development. With your help, the Gaia
Conservation Foundation plans to plant over 100,000 trees
and begin to restore this valuable eco-system to its natural
glory.

Eco-restoration of Indiamco Land
Gaia has worked with Indiamco for the eco-restoration of 3.5
acres of land at Chanvi, Khopoli, using only plants and trees
that are native to the area to provide critical green cover for
merging the land to the surrounding forest.
Do you have a project for Gaia?
Gaia undertakes the eco-restoration of degraded land. We
study the biodiversity of the area so we can plant species
that are native to the land. The aim is to restore the ecosystem
of the land to its pristine glory. Gaia will make
follow-up visits and conduct research on how the species are surviving. |
