Our Earth |

The population of the Earth is growing rapidly. We are
consuming our finite resources at an exponentially growing rate. Every enterprise and human endeavor creates wastes and greenhouse gasses like CO2 which the Earth can no longer absorb.
Climate change: The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report projects that the global surface
temperature will rise 1.1 - 6.4 °C this century causing sea levels to rise, rainfall to decrease, deserts to expand and glaciers to retreat further.
Deforestation: 13 million hectares of the world's forests are still lost each year, including 6 million hectares of primary forests.
Extinction of animals: It is estimate that current extinction rates are around 1,000 times higher than natural extinction rates. |

With over 16 million people Mumbai is putting a strain on its resources and rapidly spilling over its boundaries.
Population density of around 46,000 per square kilometer is among the highest in the world.
Automobile exhaust and industrial emissions, create serious air pollution. By some estimates breathing Mumbai's air is like smoking over 20 cigarettes a day.
Natural resources. United Nations projects Mumbai's
population to reach 27.4 million by the year 2015. This will cripple already burdened resources like water and power. |
